Canon PowerShot A1000 IS

At $199 (list), the PowerShot A1000 IS is the least-expensive 10-megapixel camera Canon has released this year. Despite its low price, it’s a great pick for those who prefer to shoot using auto settings exclusively. In Easy Mode, the camera delivers crisp colorful images. But be warned, if you step into its manual mode and move to higher ISO settings, the noisier-than-average pictures will disappoint.

If you’re looking for a low-priced digi-cam that will get the job done, then this is for you. It’s not the type of portable camera most people would like it to be but who can complain at that price. I’m not a big fan of Canon cams but in my opinion this camera is user-friendly.

Canon’s PowerShot A1000 IS excels at the basics—dead-simple “Easy Mode” shooting, sharp images, and speedy performance—all at a very palatable price.

The Good- Great image quality for the price. Handy “Easy Mode” prevents you from accidentally changing settings. Fast recycle/boot-up times with little shutter lag.

The Bad- Bulky. Viewfinder clips part of your images. High amounts of noise even at low ISO settings.
